Rolls-Royce Ghost Series 2 Celebrated As A Future Classic At The LUXURY FESTIVAL 2016

Since 1904 Rolls-Royce has created instantly recognisable motor cars that have made the marque an enduring icon all over the world. Inspired by some of the most evocative cars ever built.

History of Rolls Royce

Rolls Royce motors was founded in 1906 by Henry Royce and Charles Rolls, but the first Rolls Royce car was created in 1904 by Henry Royce. In 1998, ownership of this brand shifted after various disputes occurred regarding trademarks, licensing, and rights between Volkswagen and BMW. In the end, the ownership went to BMW, however from 2003, BMW would only be able to name their cars “Rolls-Royce”, where VW’s former Rolls-Royce/Bentley division would only be able to build cars and name them “Bentley.” Most known for their highly recognizable motor car, Rolls Royce has been an icon in the luxury car industry for over 100 years and for many more future years to come.

History of the Famous Hood Ornament

She’s referred to as The Spirit of Ecstasy, also “Emily”, “Silver Lady” or “Flying Lady”.  Designed by Charles Robinson Sykes – there is a story behind this iconic lady and it has to do with a secret passion between John Walter Edward Douglas-Scott-Montagu. Montagu of Beaulieu. He had a secret love for Eleanor Velasco Thornton, John Walter’s secretary. Their love remained hidden for more than a decade, only visible to a close friends. Her lack of social and economic status got in the way and John-Walter, giving in to family pressures, married Lady Cecil Victoria Constance instead, but the secret love affair continued. She was the inspiration for the hood ornament.

Sadly, Eleanor died on 30 December 1915, on a cruise ship, the SS Persia, after the ship was torpedoed off Crete by a German submarine, while she accompanied Lord Montagu on his journey to India.
