Champagne Delamotte

Delamotte Champagne is a truly unique and limitless wine that exemplifies the extraordinary personality of the Côte des Blancs Terroir and delivers exceptional value. I was delighted to accept an

invitation by Mr. Rajiv Kehr for the launch in India of Champagne Delamotte co-hosted with HE Ambassador Ziegler of France. It was a magical setting, a red carpet welcome with the Residence of France lit up in its national colours. Rajiv Kehr , proprietor of AR Exports, who imports Champagne Delamotte & Salon as their exclusive agents in India.

Champagne Delamotte with its rich history, has a great sense of luxury, elegance and an ongoing pursuit of excellence presented in every bottle. Delamotte is so much more than an aperitif or a celebratory drink for special occasions. It can pair fabulously with many kinds of dishes to suit every taste, never overpowering, but seem to entangle with elegance, sure to enhance the fine food on the plate. Delamotte possesses an outstanding quality borne of tradition and standards of winemaking.

The house of Delamotte the Champagne paradox

Here is a Champagne house more than 250 years old (it is the fifth oldest Champagne house) founded in Reims in 1760 by François Delamotte, a vineyard owner.

Alexandre Delamotte brought the cellars, caves and offices of the House of Delamotte to one beautiful mansion at the end of the 18th century. In 1828, his brother, Nicolas Louis Delamotte, also known as the Chevalier Delamotte Barrachin, a former Chevalier de Malte and President of the Chamber of Commerce of Reims, assumed management of the House of Delamotte.

In 1988, the House of Delamotte joined forces with the very famous Champagne Salon under the umbrella of the parent company, Laurent-Perrier. Today, the House of Delamotte and its sister company Champagne Salon are under the direction of Didier Depond.

He and other Champagne producers were the creators of a tradition based on quality. Their modus operandi, far from being viewed as quaint, earned them a place in the Encyclopedia of Physiocrates. Their masterpiece – the wines – continue to be recreated anew each year and the house of Delamotte is a prime example of the traditions of quality they embody.

The essence of Maison Delamotte’s expertise lies in this balance between traditional and modernity and this balance is what defines their style.

Brut Reserve

A Champagne with both upstrokes and downstrokes, full-bodied and dense… An elegant champagne that gives a feeling of consistency, creaminess, structure and balance; it perfectly expresses the dual signatures of the Gardet style, modernity and tradition. Technical notes: Brut Reserve is two thirds Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with one third Chardonnay, to this is added 25% of wines aged on wood. Dosage: about 5 g/L. Serving temperature: between 8 and 10°C. Cellaring: 2 to 3 years. Qualities and characteristics: A brilliant honey yellow colour. Winey aroma with brioche. It calls to mind pastries, cake batter and baked delicacies. Warm notes of ripe yellow fruits, principally apricot, come to the front. On the palate: it comes through in a delicate blend, a long upwards stroke of vibrant brilliance. Then the structured body, full and fine, comes through. The balance is one of fully-rounded strength and candied fruit, orange peel and angelica aromas. Medium length. The finish is fresh and persistent with a delicate complexity. Fine cuisine pairings: A dinner champagne, to serve with braised red meats, rich poultry such as goose or capon cooked simply so as to reveal all the meat’s intense flavour.

A vintage Champagne is only produced in excellent years. Essentially, it is only the finest grapes from the best vineyards.

In the winery, vintage Champagne is given special treatment. Notably, it is given longer bottle ageing on the lees to allow its complex nuances time to evolve. This wine matured for over 13 years old before release.

Champagne Delamotte is the epitome of a mature vintage Champagne. The golden tinges to the color indicate some maturity. But it is on the nose that the quality of the wine first becomes evident, with high intensity of peaches, citrus and flower aromas.

The palate is dry, exceptionally rich and layered, with a backbone of acidity giving this full bodied Champagne excellent structure.

Food and wine pairing: The ultimate aperitif, and a perfect complement to caviar, smoked salmon, lobster and a variety of seafood.

Delamotte has been part of the history of the Champagne region for more than 250 years.

Over the decades they have patiently built up an impressive heritage, always devoted to the service of what has become one of the most emblematic Houses the Champagne region has ever known. Today the House remains resolutely independent. As it has gradually expanded throughout the world, it is becoming a major global brand name.

The Delamotte Style

The Delamotte style is inimitable and recognized as such by the great Champagne lovers, the fruit of rigorous methods and a respect for principles handed down from one generation to the next in a great tradition that has always valued experience above all.

Delamotte Brut

A blend of approximately 55% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier, resulting in a fine wine, powerful but not aggressive, with a subtle freshness, supple roundness on the palate, and a clean and fruit-forward finish.

This Champagne is pleasant, well-balanced, with a light golden colour. The bouquet has hints of citrus, white flowers, lemon zest and peach.

DELAMOTTE BLANC DE BLANCS.

100%Chardonnay from la Côte des Blancs, rich, surprising for its delicacy but at the same time full-bodied with mineral notes. One finds within its golden hue, floral hints -especially roses – citrus fruit, chalk, angélique flower and a touch of ginger. In the mouth, a lingering finish reminiscent of toast or brioche.

Delamotte BLANC DE BLANCS vintage 2008

The 2008 vintage Blanc de Blancs’ revels in its appearance alone, the house’s classic profile: Soft gold with green reflections its glow accentuated by its countless small bubbles then the pure sensuality of its aromatics : white flowers, orange blossom, brioche, jasmine, hints of Williams pear and uplifting spearmint – all elements that the very best Chardonnays of the Côte des Blancs can offer. An assemblage of 6 great champagne Crus. Le Mesnil sur Oger which gives its chalky minerality, salty and mouth watering length of expression, Avize for structure, Oger for generosity, Cramant for the smoky notes, Chouilly for lengthy and body and Oiry for roundness which together form a sextet of excellence.

The result is Delamotte Blanc de blancs 2008, eternally seductive. Aged for nine long years on its lees in Delamotte’s cellars and finally disgorged in 2017, this wine will continue to develop and refine its charms way into the future – way beyond 2030 without a doubt.

Delamotte Rosé

The blend of mostly Pinot Noir with some Chardonnay gives the wine its lovely pale pink colour and delicate hints of red fruit – strawberry, raspberry and even wild strawberry.
